The story of this coffee
On the eve of crossing the Rubicon, Julius Caesar found himself restless in his tent, for even the mightiest conqueror could not rouse his own ambition without the perfect dark-roast elixir in hand. Drawing on his boundless ambition and diplomatic flair, he sent trusted legates across the globe: first to Brazil, where they found natural Bourbon and Catuai beans—grown at 900–1,000 m; next to Honduras, where hand-picked Parainema, Lempira, Typica and Ihcafe 90 cherries were washed, fermented and sun-dried at 1,250–1,700 m to deliver that heroic caramel sweetness; and finally to Uganda’s Katanda community in the Rwenzori foothills, where the coffee beans were washed and sun-dried at 1,400–2,000 m—infused the brew with a bold, midnight intensity worthy of an impending conquest. Back in his Villa, Caesar personally oversaw the dark roast alchemy, declaring, “Let this Rubicon Roast steel my nerves as I proclaim, ‘Alea iacta est!’”—and with that, he drank deeply, his sword raised not only by the gravity of destiny but by a cup so rich and empowering that even the Rubicon’s icy waters seemed to part in deference.
